The UFC is a legit sport that always sets out to please and impress fans. “UFC 118 Edgar vs Penn 2” headlined by the UFC Lightweight Championship fight between Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn, was no exception to this philosophy. Adding to an already stacked card was a “boxer vs MMA fighter” match pitting two heavyweights in their own sports against each other. Randy Couture set out to prove MMA fighters were better than boxers by facing world-renowned boxer, James Toney. The fans in a attendance at the TD Garden in Boston Massachusetts certainly got their money’s worth. And now you can check it out for yourself on DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment.

Starting the night out in Welterweight division; the crowd got treated to Nate Diaz VS ‘Irish Hand Grenade” Marcus Davis. The crowd was wildly alive with an anti Diaz chant. Davis was cut open very early into the first round. A close call for the bout as the doctor wanted to take a second look at Davis’ eye. But good judgment by UFC Referee Yves Lavigne kept things alive.  By the end of round 2, Davis was drenched in blood from the cut above his eye. Diaz ultimate won the bout via guillotine choke near the end of the 3rd round.

The next bout of the night came with the Lightweight confrontation between Kenny Florian and “The Bully” Gary Maynard. These guys went the distance and finished all 3 rounds, keeping the very vocal crown on their feet. However, in the end Maynard won via unanimous decision.

The middleweight bout for the evening was set between two Brazilian fighters, as Demian Maia took on “Super” Mario Miranda. Maia was in total control for the majority of the first round. Both men seemed to be holding back and the crowd noticed it. The second round started the same way as the first with Maia staying on top of Miranda on the ground. The third round saw more action on the behalf of “Super” Mario, but it was to no avail as they went all the way and it was in the hands of the judges. In the end the judges gave it to Demian Maia by unanimous decision.

Next up was the co-main event in a boxer versus mixed martial artist bout. There was a lot of hype leading into this one. James “Lights Out” Toney VS Randy “The Natural” Couture was a match that had the crowd going wild during the intros.  Not 30 seconds into the match does Couture take Toney down on the mat. From there it was just a matter of time before he locked in the arm-triangle choke for the submission victory. The class shown by Couture post fight is really something to see.

The main event was Frankie “The Answer” Edgar VS “The Prodigy” B.J. Penn for the Lightweight Championship. This was a needed rematch from their previous match where Edgar won the title from Penn. Both men wasted no time getting to the ground and throwing multiple submission attempts. Edgar taking Penn down many, many times during this bout. Penn was dominated throughout the five rounds. Frankie Edgar won via unanimous decision.

Like all major UFC DVD releases, this one comes with a bunch of awesome bonus material, including the special Countdown to UFC 118, Weigh Ins, UFC.com featurette, UFC Promos and BSN Promo. But the best bonus on this DVD is the Behind the Scenes look. This time they got to focus on the Fan Expo from Boston and really took the time to hype up the Toney VS Couture fight.

UFC 118 had some awesome fights in a city with a fantastic crowd that helps make this event feel even bigger. All that makes this DVD well worth picking up.
